- A graduate degree from a recognised university or equivalent.

- Limited number of attempts (General/EWS 6, OBC 9, PwBD 9; unlimited for SC/ST). Age window for 2027 will be in the notification due 13 Jan 2027; the check uses the 2026 window moved forward one year.

- A graduate degree from a recognised university or equivalent. Final-year students may apply for the Preliminary exam.
- Also required
- Limited number of attempts (General/EWS 6, OBC 9, PwBD 9; unlimited for SC/ST). Indian Forest Service needs specific science, agriculture, forestry or engineering subjects in your degree.
